Aubrey Williams, MS, MBA: I’m first and always a proud member of the Financial Independence community. Thanks to FI, I’m now the proud CEO of Open Path Financial, LLC, a fee-only, advice-only, Registered Investment Advisor out of Santa Barbara, California and serving the Financial Independence and ADHD/Neurodiverse communities.
Growing up in rural Mexico, Washington DC, South America, and Scandinavia as the son of an anthropologist and modern dancer, I saw many ways of living and the things money can do as well as the things it can’t.
I went to school for Mechanical Engineering, earning a BS from the University of Maryland, an MS from MIT, and an MBA from George Washington University. This led to research in particle physics and a 20 year career in Fortune 100 technology companies where I eventually ran businesses within businesses with annual revenue of more than $50M and became an Associate Director of Research & Development.
Some parts of that life were great, but on the whole I was burned out and not well physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. Going through a financially destructive divorce, I needed help with money, but the financial advisors I found were happy to take their 1% but they didn’t help me turn my financial life around.
That all changed when a coworker handed me a copy of Early Retirement Extreme in 2011. I soon discovered Mr. Money Mustache, JL Collins, the Mad Fientist, and many more, and with a few facepunches my financial life went from weaksauce to badass.
After launching Open Path Financial, LLC in 2019 while still working 50-70 hours per week in the corporate job, it took a declaration at CampFI Southwest to make 2025 the year to leave the corporate world. I did it, and now I get the honor of helping people, families and organizations to reach Financial Independence and beyond. Thank you for reading my bio! I would love to meet you and hear your story, please come say hi and stay and talk. With gratitude, Aubrey.
