Born and raised in Sri Lanka, Chamaree moved to the U.S. at the age of 20 to attend university. Since then, she has explored all 50 states and more than 35 countries. Frugal-minded, most of her travels included motels and long-haul economy flights. She assumed everyone paid tens of thousands of dollars for international business class flights.
In the past few years, Chamaree systematically learned about earning and redeeming points and miles. She now flies in lie-flat business class seats across oceans for a small fraction of the cost of an economy ticket. She takes hot showers and sleeps in beds at airport lounges during long layovers, walks on literal red carpets at check-in counters, and eats gourmet meals at 30,000 feet, all included with the ticket. She stays at bougie hotels and resorts for practically free* (her economics professor called it the F-Word) and this allows her to spend money on experiences rather than transportation and accommodations during travels.
Chamaree is an Associate Professor of Physics at a private university in Georgia. Her interests include fostering dogs and cats, gardening with native plants, signing up for physically demanding activities and regretting later, napping, and long-distance running. She lives with her senior dog, Isa, who has traveled to 13 states and prefers her own bed in fancy hotels.
