Karsten “Big Ern” Jeske retired in 2018 after a long career in academia, government, and Corporate America. He previously worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and BNY Mellon Asset Management and taught economics at Emory University and UC Berkeley. Karsten’s research papers have been published in leading academic journals like the Journal of Political Economy and the Journal of Monetary Economics. He now lives in Washington State with his wife and daughter. On his blog Early Retirement Now, he writes on all topics related to personal finance. He is best known for his comprehensive series on safe withdrawal strategies.
Karsten has an undergraduate degree in Business from the Universität Bielefeld in Germany and a Master’s and Doctorate in economics from the University of Minnesota. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation.
